Here is a summary of the relevant stories for the year 2009.
Newest LBB Members at the Turn of the Decade
The LBB would like to extend a warm welcome to both Prayanka Rajendran and Bernd Dielacher!
Prayanka, who originates from India, is a biotechnologist who has recently completed her Master in Biophysics and Photonics from Ecole Normale Supérieure, in France. She started in December 2009 and will be working on “In vivo RNA studies”.
Bernd is an electrical engineer from Vienna University of Technology. For his PhD he will be working on nanowire biosensing as part of a Nanotera project.
Promotion to Full Professor
The entire LBB is pleased to congratulate our group leader, Janos Vörös, who received a promotion to full professorship from the ETH board. Although he is quick to recognize the contribution of the entire group to his success, Janos' leadership, energy, ideas and personal style of organization have helped to successfully shape the LBB and our research over the past years.

Takumi becomes the LBB's newest Super Scientist
Takumi Sannomiya joined the young, but quickly expanding list of LBB PhD students, who have successfully defended their thesis.

Is There a Doctor in the House? Yes!
The LBB is thrilled to celebrate the achievements of Marta Bally, who successfully defended her PhD thesis on September 28th. In the new year Marta will continue her academic career in Sweden and we wish her much fun and success in her personal and professional endeavours.

New Year, New Members
The LBB is proud to announce our two newest PhD students: Sophie Demarche comes to us from the Ecole Supérieure de Biotechnologies in Strasbourg, France. With an Engineering Master Degree in Biotechnology, she will be working on a joint project with the LBB and external page Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), where she will be based. Rami Mhanna is originally from Lebanon, but recently completed his Master in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia. His PhD project will be supervised by Dr. Marcy Zenobi-Wong.
