News 2010
Here is a summary of the relevant stories for the year 2010.
One more Doctor short before Christmas!
On December the 17th, Andreas Binkert brilliantly defended his thesis entitled: "Multiplexing and Miniaturizing Microarrays for High-Sensitivity Proteomics"

New LBB member
Dario Ossola who did his master in Electrical Engineering at the ETH started his PhD thesis about "FluidFM for electrophysiology" in December 2010.
ETH Medal for Takumi
Dr. Takumi Sannomiya received the ETH Medal for his thesis on Optical BioSensing Based on Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance - Experiments & Simulations

Another one gets a hat!
On November 16th Ana Sala Roca succesfully defended her thesis entitled:
"Engineering in vitro environments to study cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions."
LBB Group Retreat 2010 (Location: Flims)
This year our yearly group retreat took place in Flims.
We could all share our research progresses, open scientific discussions and think about the future of the lab.
We also enjoyed the beauty of the Caumasee with some local food.

After a walk in the forest we reached the breathtaking Swiss Grand Canyon.
Finally we tried to follow Tarzan in his steps (or jumps) in the local tree-climbing park. Pretty intense group retreat with a lot of fun!
New LBB members
Victoria DeLange and Harald Dermutz started their PhD in September 2010.
Victoria received her master in Biomedical Engineering at the ETH and will work on protein microarrays. Harald did his Dipl. Ing. in Electrical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering at the Graz University of Technology. His work will focus on neuron networks.
Another LBB Doctor
On August 31st Robert MacKenzie successfully defended his thesis entitled: "Nanowires and Ordered Nanosystems for Simultaneous Optical and Electrochemical Sensing."

Materials Research Prize to LBB Graduate
Dr. Marta Bally received the Materials Research Prize for her PhD work in 2010.
New LBB member
In April 2010 we could welcome a new lbb member: Raphael Grüter, who did his Master in Nanoscience with Major in Physics at the University of Basel. In his PhD thesis he will use the FluidFM as lithography tool.
